Top Books of 2022
After a few years of reading slumps (2020 and 2021 were weird all around), I returned to my normal reading habits finishing the year with 55 books read (although, I’m sure I missed a few in there). While this feels like a return to normal for me, I will stress that no amount or type of reading is better than another. Most of my reading is through audiobooks and I work in a library where a lot of my job can be done with a headphone in my ear. With that said, here are my favourite reads of the year:
General
Cloud Cockoo Land - Anthony Doerr.
Anthony Doerr is one of my favourite authors and this book did not disappoint.
The Death of Vivek Oji - Akwaeke Emezi
Crying in H-Mart - Michelle Zauner
Our Missing Hearts - Celeste Ng
Sci-Fi Series
Parable of the Sower and The Parable of the Talents - Octavia E. Butler
I finally dipped into the brilliant mind of Octavia Butler, and someone tell me why it took me so long?
The Murderbot Diaries - Martha Wells
My whole family got hooked on this antisocial A.I. and its adventures.
The Memory Librarian - Janelle Monae and others.
I got to see Janelle Monae herself on the book tour!
Cosy Fiction This newly named genre, based on the cosy mystery genre, is exactly what it sounds like. Most take place in bookstores, libraries, and coffee shops.
Under the Whispering Door - TJ Klune
The Littlest Library - Poppy Alexander
Legends & Lattes - Travis Baldree
This book has the best tagline: High Fantasy, Low Stakes.
